An array of sarees from traditional brocade weaves as seen at Gaurang S to more contemporary drapes with a sporty twist as seen at GAGA by Tanya Sharma – Here are our top saree picks from day 3 at Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014
Anita Dongre has long been one of the commercially most successful Indian fashion designers. Her bridal collection at Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014 is a tribute to her mythical muse ‘Nayantara’, who is the ideal Jaipur bride. Though her garments very much fall in the conventional line, her aesthetics, perfection and unmatched finesse earns her a place in our best saree picks from day 3 at Lakme Fashion Week.
GAGA BY TANYA SHARMA
Garments at GAGA by Tanya Sharma featured traditional textile treatments like bandhani, leheriya, tie-n-dye and bold block while the silhouettes featured heavy sportswear influence. This peach & teal saree ensemble paired with polo collared blouse and sneakers makes it way into our best sarees from day 3 at Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014.
Gaurang S show on day 3 at Lakme Fashion Week was a riot of colours and a variety of kanchipuram weaving techniques, matka silk and maheshwari- khadi, zardosi and badla embroidery on sarees that were unconventionally draped on the models.
We conclude our list with this charcoal saree ensemble featuring ‘holding hands’ prints which was the central theme of the collection signifying the need to cement relationships, shun societal norms and, instead, adopt love and unity for all.
